uVPN Free VPN 2020 for Chrome — Review & Test

uVPN is a perfectly usable VPN for Google Chrome. It's a free alternative to basic VPNs, developed specifically for web browsers.

One of the key benefits of uVPN is unlimited bandwidth, so users can share traffic all day with no limitations.The uVPN service provides a webRTC leak protection feature while securing users from DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks.

While privacy is a bit iffy, uVPN is perfectly usable for bypassing online censorship. According to our tests, speed was below the average, but actually not so bad.

uVPN’s Google Chrome extension is free for users to implement in their browsing interactions. The website doesn’t show a lot of information about the pricing structure though. Actually, it seems, that the website is broken, which is not a really good sign of a trusted company.

User Interface – Is uVPN easy to use?

While uVPN may not be the most widely known name in the industry, during our testing we have found out that the Chrome browser extension is relatively easy to install and use, which is actually one of the biggest advantages of the service.

The fact that there are not a lot of features and configurations options actually play in the product's favor, which praises simplicity as one of its keys for success. Actually, we think that this app has the most simple and limited settings we have ever seen. What is strange that the info button next to the feature called “Unlock mode” does not work, which is again quite frustrating and disappointing.

After downloading and installing the app, all you need is to click on the uVPN icon, choose the server location you want to join. By clicking on a big grey button you will start the VPN connection which will be encrypted from now on (your location will be also hidden). If you do this successfully, the button will change its color to green. Sometimes it can take some time to connect, though.

The user interface is slick and intuitive, and you don’t need to provide a username, password, or register to the VPN service.

Does Free uVPN for Chrome Unblock YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, HBO GO, Amazon Prime, & BBC iPlayer?

During our testing, uVPN~ worked well with YouTube, Google, and Facebook. Unfortunately, we have not been able to connect to Netflix and Hulu.

The same problem we had with BBC iPlayer but that wasn't a big surprise since BBC iPlayer blocks nearly all VPN services, except HideMyAss VPN which recently even announced new feature IP Stickinees for Improved Netflix and BBC iPlayer streaming.
