Avast has just upgraded their VPN infrastructure to deliver content faster and without even lower impact on the connection speed. Avast SecureLine VPN has always been one of the fastest VPNs on the market and we are really curious how it is performing on the new servers.
Due to a nature of a VPN connection which basically adds a server between you (client) and the service (e.g. Netflix), it will always have some negative impact on the connection speed. The question is how big one.

Avast SecureLine VPN Server Locations
According to Avast, they deploy new servers almost every week in order to ensure excellent connection speeds. There is nothing more annoying than your streamed movie being loaded due to a slow VPN server.
The latest addition of servers includes new hardware and additional power in Australia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, South Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey, and the United States. In total Avast now covers 35 countries and 57 cities around the world.
Especially the Avast SecureLine VPN users in Chicago area should see the greatest improvement as that's where the new hosting facility stands.
Avast has also upgraded their busiest servers in Europe (not sure where exactly though) to 10 Gbps connectivity for each individual server adding a total of 250 Gbps of network capacity. That is really something outstanding.
Now let's see what kind of impact the new servers make.
Performance & Internet Connection Speed Test
In order to measure the impact of the new Avast VPN infrastructure, we have decided to re-run the performance test in April 2018. And the results are quite incredible, especially in Brazil. However, please note that also the benchmark (e.g. connection with No VPN) has become significantly faster.
Location | Ping (ms) NEW vs. OLD | Download (Mbps) NEW vs. OLD | Upload (Mbps) NEW vs. OLD |
---|---|---|---|
No VPN (benchmark) | 10 vs. 163 | 19.34 vs. 5.74 | 4.73 vs. 4.44 |
USA | 112 vs. 190 | 8.45 vs. 6.08 | 3.24 vs. failed |
Germany | 25 vs. 170 | 15.85 vs. 4.40 | 4.54 vs. 3.12 |
Australia | 309 vs. 508 | 3.41 vs. 1.87 | 1.01 vs. 1.37 |
Brazil | 241 vs. 440 | 22.17 vs. 1.40 | 2.67 vs. failed |
United Kingdom | 62 vs. 151 | 10.77 vs. 4.00 | 4.28 vs. 2.89 |
Russia | 69 vs. 221 | 10.06 vs. 4.83 | 3.86 vs. 2.60 |
